ECHO CENTRAL - LEEDS
Main Contractor: GB Building Solutions Ltd
Architect:
DLA Architecture
Date:
January 2008 to October 2008
Contract value to Hydram : £25,000
The Echo
development is a £100m mixed use scheme situated
in the newly evolving eastern approach to
central Leeds. The focal points of the scheme
are two residential and commercial landmark
towers, styled with curving facades and roof
line.
Façade
Unique curved facade feature provided by Hydram.
Each curved length was designed by our in house
design team working from the original building
schematics and incorporating vastly varying
radii. From this each 2.5m length was developed
to its required finished radii using a sheet
metal working machine and bespoke tooling. This
method allowed Hydram to provide full precision
curved lengths manufactured in one piece,
eliminating the need for welding and vastly
reducing costs.
The size of the project for Hydram was in excess
of 1500 linear metres of curved 'Z' Section
Facade Channel, over 500 butt straps and 1000
other fixing brackets designed to overcome
varying on site problems.
Each part was identified with an individual
reference number, packed into kits and delivered
to site with detailed fixing instructions and
grid references to ensure each curved length was
installed into the correct position as per the
original design. All metalwork was finished in a
powder coat paint, carried out in line with
architectural standards and supplied with a 25
year guarantee.
